演講摘要:
What is discussed as land education in North American settings is understood in Australia in terms of relationships with Country. Building pedagogy around the people-to-people, people-to-environment and people-to-cosmos relationships that weave human societies into the fabric of their lives offers a way of framing the roles of teachers beyond the delivery of state-endorsed curricula and programs. It offers a way of both tailoring teaching to individual needs and strengthening the cultural and environmental relationalities that will support students as lifelong learners. It reinforces many of the lessons of Freirean pedagogies that learning to read is so much more than decoding text – it is about learning to read context and meaning in the worlds of which we are part and therefore it is the task of becoming not just more fully-human but of becoming better citizens of the societies we are part of. This reflection brings into question the tensions between the expectations on teachers to restrict their role to the delivery of colonizing state requirements and the need to respond to the needs, aspirations and possibilities of their students.
